The Sibley Parkway Redevelopment Project was designed in close collaboration with the City of Mankato, with the intent to revitalize an existing industrial area of the City into a vibrant, mixed use development. This project encompassed approximately 70 acres of under-utilized and blighted area located adjacent to the Minnesota River. Working closely with the City, I&S took existing redevelopment guidelines and developed mixed use concepts, roadway alignments, and utility improvements for the area.
Because the project area is adjacent to the Minnesota River and contains the flood control levee and an old lime storage pond, I&S also coordinated various design and regulatory aspects of the project with numerous state and federal agencies. Also included in the project was extensive riverbank restoration of the Minnesota River utilizing bendway weirs and native vegetation. By utilizing vegetation, it is hoped that the public will be invited to interact with the river both visually and physically.
