The existing steel and timber bridge over County Ditch No. 5 in Faribault County was aging and did not have the load capacity or width to allow current agricultural equipment to safely cross the ditch. I&S Group performed an inspection of the bridge and determined that a new bridge would be more cost effective than upgrading the existing structure.
After analysis, it was determined that a precast bridge structure would be the most cost efficient and durable material. The existing piles and abutment were able to be reused, minimizing the project cost. The resultant project was a bridge designed for AASHTO wheel loadings, wide agricultural equipment, and a long life span.
