BANFIELD ELEMENTARY

I&S Group was recently awarded the Banfield Elementary School HVAC Improvements project by the Austin Public School system. The primary focus of the estimated $2.25 Million project is to improve indoor air quality.

The existing steam boiler plant will be replaced with new high efficiency hot water boilers capable of meeting the heating demands of the building and of the new ventilation systems, and remaining steam devices and components will be replaced and hot water will become the primary heating source for all areas of the building.

New systems will also be equipped with dehumidification capabilities, and will be designed to incorporate energy and heat recovery, displacement ventilation, variable air volume control, variable speed pumping, and direct digital control sequencing as appropriate to allow for optimization of all system operations.

Additionally, the life-cycle cost of each system will be considered during the design process. Simply selecting the option with the lowest initial installation cost may not provide an indoor environment that allows for maximum occupant effectiveness while minimizing energy, maintenance, and operating costs.
