Johnson Outdoors is a manufacturer of outdoor adventure gear, with many well-known brands. Johnson Outdoors was working out of a multitude of buildings through Mankato and in 2006 decided to centralize their operation. Lidstrom Commercial Realtors contracted I&S to design the new Johnson Outdoors on a site east of Mankato in the new industrial area visible from Highway 14.
The building structure is made up of colored precast panels, geometric finishes, and wall shapes which give the façade a sense of proportion in regard to the vastness of the site and building. The structure was designed for potential future expansion with removable and reusable wall panels.
The interior dynamics are in constant motion. From the receiving to production, to quality control, warehousing, and finally shipping all of this being prevalent at the south elevation where there are 22 overhead doors with linear blue canopies.
I&S provided complete design services including architectural and interior design; structural, mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering; land surveying; landscape architecture; and environmental services.
