The City of Annandale called upon I&S to assess their existing fire station facility and analyze the cost of renovating compared to constructing a new facility. Based on the report generated by I&S, the City concluded construction of a new fire station was the best value.
Firefighter safety was a key element of the building design. Turnout gear is located immediately inside the access doors and adjacent to the apparatus bays to keep firefighters out of the trucks’ exit and entrance paths during responses.
A hose-drying tower is equipped with a hoist to lift wet hoses to the ceiling for adequate drying between calls, eliminating heavy lifting by firefighters. The large hose-drying tower was prominently located near the front-center of the building as an architectural feature. In addition, the tower is illuminated at night providing a “gateway” to the eastern edge of Annandale.
