The State Bank of Faribault Galleria project revived two historic icons of downtown Faribault after several decades and owners left them two decrepit shadows of their former selves. Over a century after the construction of the three original buildings, The State bank of Faribault purchased what remained of the last combination and began a large scale restoration project that would allow the former grandeur of the buildings to shine through after years of neglect.
As part of the exterior restoration, the front and rear facades were unified, and the existing bricks from past remodels dyed to match the oldest original bricks. New detail bricks were cast by ArtStone to match the original architectural details, and signage appropriate to the building's original era was created to merge the historic building with the current owner and occupants.
The interior restoration included refurbishing the original hardwood floors, doors, and woodwork as well as brick party walls where advertising for locally brewed sarsaparilla was uncovered during demolition. Dingy lower level retail spaces were rejuvenated and decrepit upper level apartments remodeled to form flexible office suites and space for a restaurant featuring a relaxing outdoor patio. These formerly neglected buildings are now performing as drivers of a flourishing downtown economy and serving as a catalyst for additional improvements to the downtown Faribault historic district.
