Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna, Minnesota, has a vibrant and growing ministry. The historic building that the church is currently utilizing does not adequately serve the needs of the members. However, as the congregation is an important part of the community, they wanted to remain in their location and add on to the existing facility. I&S Group was retained to take preliminary planning documents from programming through construction documents.
I&S Group has been extremely involved in the programming process, coordinating user group meetings with all major users of the building to determine their needs and staying in close contact with the Building Committee and congregation. We have also assisted with providing the congregation materials for fundraising, which has been very successful.
Design challenges for the project include creating a feasible phasing plan, updating and integrating the new addition with existing architecture, mechanical, electrical, and structural systems, and providing a long term plan for adequate parking. Our designers and cost estimators have been working since the beginning of design on recognizing value engineering opportunities to maintain the project budget.
