Jackson County Judicial Ditch No. 30

Jackson County Judicial Ditch No. 30

JD 30 has seen a number of improvements since its inception, and this project focused on furthering its expansion with a 2,000 foot lateral branch and a storage basin with a low-flow weir outlet to increase water storage capacity. Open Ditch No. 2 also was also expanded. To provide additional storage, nearly 5,000 feet of Ditch No. 2 was deepened, plus side inlets, armored tile outlets, and 16.5 foot buffer strips were installed to enhance water quality treatment and prevent further erosion. An 84-inch field crossing replaced existing culverts to improve drainage capacity and reduce future maintenance costs.

Special attention was given to one specific branch and included installation of nearly 3,000 feet of 18 inch tile to reach two new locations and outlet directly into an open ditch (CD 2). Installation of drop intakes and two woodchip bioreactors improve surface drainage and water quality. This branch’s lateral system was also lengthened with an 18-inch tile, connecting with numerous private tile lines to provide drainage to an additional 45 acres of the watershed.
