Profinium Place Tower – The Tailwind Group

Mankato, MN

Embarking on their most ambitious development venture to date, the Mankato-based company Tailwind Group decided to move their new corporate headquarters into their flagship project, Profinium Place Tower. Partnering with ISG, Tailwind Group built a seven-story facility, which is part of a $40 million, multi-facility development to revitalize downtown Mankato. The new facility includes parking ramps, two office buildings, and a mixed-use building, loft apartments, restaurants, and retail space.

Adaptability and functionality were important components in the construction of this high-profile office building. When the initial plans and renderings were revealed, demand for office spaces spiked, prompting the addition of the seventh floor to the facility’s original design. The seventh floor provided eight additional offices, as well as a conference room, break room, and reception area. With floor-to-ceiling windows offering abundant sunshine, work areas are rotated to reduce glare while wall dividers are transparent so daylight permeates the space. Building plans included group work stations and a spacious lounge to encourage collaboration, outlined with unique window systems. The new design allows employees to enjoy the beautiful city views and natural light. The luxury and quality that went into designing these offices created Class A commercial office space. The Tailwind Group ultimately selected this floor as their headquarters.

The most distinguishing feature of this glass-enclosed building is the structurally glazed cantilevered wedge that angles out over the building’s prominent corner, adding architectural detail at the intersection of Riverfront Drive and Warren Street. This feature also increases the rentable space of this 75,000 square-foot office complex. The exterior angles were based on site lines developed during the site analysis. Integrated into interior design details, this angular concept is found in the lobby floor tile, wall panels, visually striking light fixtures, and accent tile in the common spaces. The lobby’s open staircase with a clear glass railing serves as a focal point while showcasing the clean lines and sleek surfaces of the space.

This project is the largest downtown development the City of Mankato has seen in nearly two decades. Profinium Place Tower continues promoting downtown revitalization efforts and has become a signature gateway to Mankato’s City Center.
