Algona YMCA

Algona YMCA

Algona, IA

The Algona YMCA began as a community recreation facility funded through private donations. Planned phased-construction began in 1986. What began as a humble and small facility, with no onsite staff has grown over the past 20+ years into a community YMCA that is the envy of communities much larger than Algona.

These 5 major phases included racquetball courts, locker rooms, a 30’ x 60’ exercise room, and an 84’ x 120’ gym with a suspended track, a Cybex room, baby-sitting area, and a member lounge. There is also a large aerobics room, free weights room, office area, and an additional 42’ x 68’ multi-purpose gym.

The final addition of a competition lap pool featuring zero-depth entry, pool slides and fountains, and additional exercise rooms was completed in 2010.
