Rail Facilities

A key component of the non-metallic mining industry is rail access. To meet the growing needs of their mining activities, a confidential mining client required a major rail expansion for their facility.

Providing environmental due diligence, topographic survey, sub-ballast design, slope-stability design, storm water management, construction staking, and turf reestablishment design was required for the rail facilities. Most recently, nearly 27,000 linear feet of spur line and yard track rail were added which required assistance with staging and load out diagrams.

Surveying railroad alignments has many challenges, including very old rights-of-way mapping, missing historical records, and safety issues related to working on live rail. Rail related survey services that were provided include permanent control establishment, boundary survey, easement descriptions, and parcel descriptions for the rail work at the project location.
